Innov8 UK Group was contacted by the client to attend 8 The Spinney, Arnside, to sample the garage ceiling and — as the material was anticipated to contain asbestos — to carry out a preliminary site assessment for potential removal works. A site inspection was undertaken to evaluate the scope of the asbestos insulating board (AIB) removal required to facilitate the planned refurbishment.
The site assessment and subsequent sample analysis confirmed the full removal of approx. 72m² of AIB panels fixed to the internal garage ceiling. The works were undertaken under fully controlled conditions, with removal carried out at height using a mobile tower, step ladders and hop-up platforms within a purpose-built enclosure maintained under negative pressure.
Asbestos risks were controlled through fully licensed removal within a purpose-built enclosure maintained under negative pressure, using controlled wet-removal techniques, shadow vacuuming, strict decontamination procedures and independent UKAS-accredited air monitoring in accordance with CAR 2012 and HSG247. Work-at-height and access-equipment risks were managed through site-specific risk assessments, competent supervision, and the compliant use and inspection of all access equipment.
Safe access to the rear of the garage was carefully managed due to a sloping rock incline, which presented an uneven and potentially unstable approach.
All arisings were double-bagged and removed as hazardous asbestos waste under consignment note to a licensed disposal facility, with a full documentation pack issued to the client on completion.
