AIB garage ceiling panel removal, Walter Scott Avenue

A completed Innov8 UK Group project in Wigan — delivered safely, documented fully and handed back on programme.
THE PROJECT

What we did

AIB garage ceiling panels removed under full licensed conditions, with enclosure, environmental clean and air monitoring throughout. The garage was independently cleared before handback, with the complete document pack supplied.

Work areas were zoned and cleaned methodically with HEPA extraction and appropriate RPE, keeping the surrounding operations running throughout, and closed out with photographic records and full waste documentation.

Innov8 UK Group carries out industrial cleaning and asbestos removal in Wigan and across the UK, with depots in Manchester, Carlisle and London. Every project — from a single garage to live rail and industrial sites — gets the same controls, the same paperwork and the same honest advice.

Scope of works & method

OVERVIEW AND JUSTIFICATION FOR THE WORKS

Our contracts manager attended site on the agreed date at 10:00am, accompanied by the client’s representative.

A walkthrough of the garage and associated property was carried out. Following the inspection, the client confirmed their intention to proceed with asbestos removal works under fully controlled conditions.

The asbestos-containing material identified comprises asbestos insulating board (AIB) panels, which are nailed to timber joists. The total estimated quantity is approximately 10m². No visible voids were identified leading into other areas of the property. The only anticipated void is located above the AIB panels, with an estimated depth of approximately 150mm.

The asbestos is currently in very good condition in situ.

The garage door was removed by the client prior to commencement of works. The main fixing bracket remained attached to the AIB panels and was removed by IUG as part of the works. This was disposed of accordingly, as the client has confirmed that a replacement garage door was not reinstated.

HOW THE ASBESTOS AND NON-ASBESTOS RISKS WERE CONTROLLED

Asbestos risks were controlled through fully licensed removal within a purpose-built enclosure maintained under negative pressure, using controlled wet-removal techniques, shadow vacuuming, strict decontamination procedures, and independent UKAS-accredited air monitoring in accordance with CAR 2012, HSG247, and IUG procedures’-asbestos risks, including work at height and use of access equipment, was managed through site-specific risk assessments, competent supervision, compliant use and inspection of step ladders and hop-ups, clear segregation, and appropriate PPE.

OBSTRUCTIONS MAKING ACCESS AND THE WORKS MORE DIFFICULT?

The client ensured the garage is completely emptied prior to works commencing, with no obstructions that may hinder access or removal activities.

ANY ASBESTOS TO BE LEFT IN SITU?
