Approx. 15m² of asbestos-containing Artex ceiling was removed from an occupied home in central Birmingham under controlled non-licensed conditions, with the room sheeted out in polythene and the rest of the property protected throughout.
Trained, medical-cleared operatives removed the textured coating using controlled wet techniques and Class H vacuum equipment, with all waste double-bagged and consigned to a licensed hazardous waste facility with full paperwork.
Innov8 UK Group provides artex removal and asbestos removal in Birmingham for homeowners, businesses and main contractors alike, working UK-wide from depots in Manchester, Carlisle and London.
A sample of the textured coating to the ceiling was confirmed to contain chrysotile asbestos ahead of planned refurbishment works at this occupied home in central Birmingham. The removal and disposal of approximately 15m² of asbestos-containing Artex ceiling was carried out as non-licensed asbestos work under controlled conditions in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSG210 and current industry best practice. As the property remained occupied, floor coverings, doorways and transit routes were fully protected with polythene sheeting and the work area was sealed from the rest of the property for the duration of the works.
All access and waste transit routes were carefully managed and monitored throughout the duration of the project to minimise disruption and maintain safety at all times.
The asbestos risk associated with the removal of the textured coating was controlled through controlled wet removal techniques, Class H vacuum cleaners, polythene sheeting to floors and openings and suitable PPE and RPE worn by trained, medical-cleared operatives. All asbestos waste was double-bagged, removed from site and disposed of at a licensed hazardous waste facility with full consignment paperwork. Non-asbestos risks, including work at height and manual handling, were controlled through the use of suitable access equipment, good housekeeping and supervision throughout.
On completion the work area was cleaned, visually inspected and handed back ready for the planned refurbishment works to proceed.
