For schools and many commercial premises, the best time to remove asbestos is when the building is empty. Summer 2025 was one of our busiest periods for exactly this reason, and two projects show how careful programming keeps disruption to zero.
At a primary school in Liverpool, our licensed team removed asbestos insulating board (AIB) from an external, stand-alone boiler room to make way for new services. The work was deliberately programmed for the summer holidays, when the premises were unoccupied. The AIB was removed intact within a sealed enclosure under negative pressure, and a reoccupation certificate was issued as soon as the independent clearance confirmed the area was safe — well before staff and pupils returned for the new term.
Working in an education setting demands extra planning: unoccupied timing, secure boundaries, and clear certification that the building is safe to reoccupy. It is a responsibility we take seriously.
At a redundant self-storage building in Bath, the scope was very different — a large-area, non-licensed removal to facilitate refurbishment. Our teams removed textured coating, bitumen and floor tiles totalling well over 500 square metres, using wet-strip techniques, mechanical floor removal with on-tool dust extraction, and H-type vacuums, with all waste double-bagged and removed to an enclosed asbestos skip on site. The project passed an external audit during the works.
These two jobs — a licensed school removal and a large non-licensed commercial strip-out — highlight an important point: not all asbestos work is the same. The right method depends entirely on the material, its condition and the setting. A licensed contractor assesses all of that and programmes the work to fit around your building's use.
If your school or commercial premises need asbestos work, plan ahead for the quiet periods. Innov8 UK Group can survey, programme and deliver so your reopening is never in doubt.
