Every licensed asbestos removal project starts with a plan: where the enclosure sits, where the decontamination unit (DCU) connects, how the airlocks and baglocks are arranged, where negative pressure units draw from, how waste routes run and where the site is segregated from the public. Until now, that planning has lived across generic drawing tools that were never designed for asbestos work. So we are building our own.
The Innov8 Asbestos Site Planner is a purpose-built site-drawing programme developed in-house. It lets our contracts managers and supervisors draw a complete licensed asbestos site in minutes — in both 2D plan view and full 3D — using a library of the exact components our sites use: enclosures, 3-stage airlocks and baglocks, NPUs, H-VAC units, leak and clearance pumps, DCUs, transit routes, skips, generators, access towers, segregation barriers and signage.
Plans are drawn to scale on a metre grid, with a one-click switch to a 3D view that shows the site exactly as it will be built — walls, enclosure panels, vision panels, vehicles and welfare. A built-in NPU calculator works out air-change requirements as the enclosure is drawn, and every plan exports cleanly for inclusion in project documentation.
There are plenty of drawing packages on the market — but none of them have the capabilities our specialised projects require. Generic tools don’t know what a 3-stage airlock is, can’t calculate negative pressure, and can’t reflect the way a licensed contractor actually sets out a site. Rather than bend our procedures around someone else’s software, we built software around our procedures.
The planner integrates directly with our existing RAMS and site procedures: the site drawing that accompanies a plan of work is now produced in the same system, with the same components, to the same standard — on every project.
The Site Planner is one piece of a wider programme. We are also developing our own IUG App — a single platform where all of our systems come together: site drawings, RAMS, live project records, monitoring data and the site log our teams use every day (the same in-house log an HSE inspector recently photographed for reference during an unannounced inspection he rated excellent).
It reflects how we approach everything: we don’t follow suit — we innov8.
