Older and more complex buildings throw up the trickiest asbestos jobs — confined basements, difficult access and unexpected contamination. Two November 2025 projects show how Innov8 UK Group works through those challenges safely.
At a religious congregation's premises in Worsley, Salford, our licensed teams removed around 55 square metres of AIB — ceilings across three open-plan basement rooms, plus AIB doors and headers. Sub-level working is demanding: space is tight, access is restricted, and each room had to be treated as its own controlled enclosure. Three separate enclosures were built and run under full negative pressure with negative pressure units and airlocks, and the decontamination unit connected directly, all in strict accordance with CAR 2012 and HSG247.
At a commercial building in Doncaster, the asbestos was only part of the problem. The building carried heavy bird and bat guano contamination that had to be removed under controlled conditions before licensed asbestos works could even begin. Our teams then removed AIB panelling and ceilings across several rooms, along with non-licensed floor tiles and adhesive, using full enclosures under negative pressure with smoke testing to prove enclosure integrity. The licensed works were phased to suit the building and the adjacent premises.
Historic and complex buildings rarely offer a straightforward asbestos job. Hidden materials, confined spaces, biological contamination and heritage sensitivities all have to be planned for.
